What It Is

The PYC Fleet Committee is the member-run committee of Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club on Lake Norman that acts as the liaison between the club’s members, staff, and management. (Source)

Committee Structure

The committee is made up of about 11 elected/appointed member volunteers holding roles such as Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Power and Sail Fleet Captains, Treasurer, Secretary, Purser, Chief Ensign, and Education/Publicity chairs. (Source)

The committee is charged with providing insight to the management of the Club on interests and best practices for all Peninsula Yacht Club members. (Source)

More broadly, it exists to represent members and create a connection between club members, owners, and staff in order to develop communication, foster education, continue traditions, and enhance the social and yachting experience. (Source)

What It Does

Monthly Open Meetings

Holds open monthly meetings (historically the second Saturday of the month) where any member can participate. (Source)

Annual Poker Run

Organizes the club’s signature boating and social events, including the annual Poker Run — the biggest PYC Fleet Committee event of the year, where members cruise Lake Norman by boat collecting cards at stops around the lake. (Source)

Fleet Commissioning Ceremony

Runs the Fleet Commissioning Ceremony each spring, which marks the opening of the boating/social season and installs the incoming Fleet Committee. (Source)

Lakewide Regattas

Serves as Organizing Authority for lakewide sailing regattas hosted at PYC, such as the Fall Fellowship Regatta Series on Lake Norman. (Source)

Community Events

Hosts other community events like the annual Old/New Car & Classic Boat Show at the club, plus informal member Raft Ups on the water. (Source)

Boating Safety & Education
