Power Fleet

PYC Fleet Committee — Peninsula Yacht Club, Lake Norman

Creating inclusive boating events where safety is the priority and fun is the standard.

Power Fleet Purpose

The Power Fleet is the motorboat-focused branch of the PYC Fleet Committee, a 501(c)(7) nonprofit advisory body at Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club. It operates under the Fleet Committee’s charter purpose — enhancing the member boating experience, sponsoring boating, social, and educational events, preserving yachting traditions, and connecting club ownership/management, staff, and members. Leadership Structure

Guiding Motto

Power Fleet’s stated motto is: “Creating inclusive boating events where safety is the priority and fun is the standard.” In practice this means a full calendar of powerboat-oriented social and fundraising events, community-building through shared experiences and friendly competition, and a safety-first culture at every outing — captain’s briefings, safety debriefs, waivers for on-water events, and coordinated boat-stop logistics. What The Power Fleet Does

Annual Poker Run

Power Fleet’s signature fundraising event: members captain their own boats between roughly five stops on the lake to collect playing cards for poker hands. The 2026 run sold 183 hands (~$3,410) plus 63 additional hands (~$630), raised $225 for the Calvin Newman Fund, and drew 45 sign-ups across 21 boats, a double-decker, two Talley’s shuttle rides, and a TowBoat USA escort — supported by 26 volunteers and 4 sponsors. The day runs on structured logistics: captain check-in and safety debrief, a card-collection window on the water, an afternoon hand-play and validation session with dealers and a pit boss, an MC-led prize announcement, a raffle giveaway, and a club BBQ with live music to close.

Recurring Raft Ups

Themed evening social gatherings on the water throughout the season — such as a Cinco de Mayo raft-up in May and a patriotic-themed raft-up in July — typically 6–8pm, anchored by a captained double-decker boat, with the club providing food and the Fleet handling waivers and decorations.

Power Boater of the Year

An ongoing, season-long recognition program that tracks member participation and standings across Power Fleet events, culminating in a year-end award that reinforces engagement and friendly competition among power-boat members.

Community & Cross-Committee Events

Power Fleet members contribute volunteer support to broader club events, such as the Celebrity Home & History Tour, which drew praise for its organization from attendees.

Volunteer-Driven Operations

Every major event runs on a structured volunteer model — check-in captains, dealers, photographers, a validation desk, and a sponsor-ambassador system pairing committee members with contributors — making member volunteering a core, recurring part of how Power Fleet functions.

In Short

Power Fleet is the volunteer-run engine behind PYC’s powerboating life on Lake Norman — running the club’s biggest fundraising event of the year, hosting recurring social raft-ups, recognizing top boaters, teaching safe boating skills, and doing it all under a safety-first, member-driven culture. isit peninsulayacht.com

Power Fleet Events

Sponsors & Marketing

Each event runs its own sponsorship/contributor program (banners, shirt and hat merchandise, promo placement). All Power Fleet marketing follows PYC Fleet Committee brand guidelines: official naming as “PYC Fleet Committee, Power Fleet,” required Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club approval on graphics and promotions, and use of approved club channels such as The Watch, club social media, and the Commodore’s and Outrigger bars.
